Past simple
When do we use it?
Something happened in the past and is finished/ lasted not long or past habits.

How do we use it (affirmative)?
Verb+ed

What are the exceptions?
Irregular verbs!



The game started at 2 o’clock. 
He worked hard today. 

I bought a new phone (not buyed!)
Lopen wordt liep in het NL!

How do we use it (negative)?
Did + not + verb

How do we use it (questions)?
Did + persoonlijk vnw. + verb

What is the exeption?
The verb “to be”
Use: was or were



The game did not start at 2 o’clock
He did not work hard today

Did I buy a new phone?
Did they leave early?

She was not happy with the news
Were they here for the first time?

Present Perfect
When do we use it?
-Something started in the past and is still going on/ the effects are still present.
-Something happened a very short while ago.
-Past events when it doesn't matter when they happened. (eg. I have been to a lot of countries in Europe.)

- FYNE JAS words: F or, Y et, N ever, E ver, J ust, A lready, S ince. 
(always present perfect!)

Example: I have not seen her YET/ She has worked here FOR 6 years.

Present Perfect
How do we use it?
Have/has + verb 3e rijtje (voltooid deelwoord).

How do we use it (questions and negative)?
Questions: only word order changes.
Negative: Have/ has + not + ww 3e rijtje.


have just finished my lunch. 
She has opened the window.
 

Has she opened the window?

I have not just finished my lunch.

Adverbs 
Adverb (bijwoord) tells you something about:

- a verb
- an adjective (bijvoeg. nw.)*
- another adverb
- an entire sentence


* Tells you something about a noun

Adverbs
Words ending in:
y becomes i+ly                       heavy – heavily
ic becomes ically                  dramatic – dramatically
le becomes ly                          terrible – terribly
Be aware! hard/late/fast: deze woorden krijgen geen 'ly’ op het eind:
She is a hard worker; She works hard
He is a fast driver; He drives fast
She was late; The bus arrived late

Reflexive pronouns (wederkerend)
- Om nadruk te leggen.
- Te specificeren wat er precies gebeurd is.
- Vertaling van mezelf/ jezelf/ zichzelf/ onszelf
- enkv. wordt -self/ mv. wordt -selves

In de wedstrijd stootte hij zichzelf met zijn tennisracket.
In the match he hit himself with his tennis racket.
