Adverbs (bijwoorden) give information about verbs, (werkwoorden) and how the action in a sentence happens.
(These usually end with -ly)

I greatly appreciate your help.
Why are you walking so slowly?

Adverbs can also give more information about adjectives.

The incredibly small mouse.
The very ugly armchair.

Adverb spelling
Adverbs usually end in -ly. 
When a word ends in -y -> -ily easy -> easily
When a word ends in -le -> -ly terrible -> terribly
When a word ends in -c -> -ally basic -> basically

Irregular adverbs
Some adverbs do not follow the general spelling rules and do not get a new ending:
hard, fast, high, near, short, late, long, low

good is an adjective -> a good book
well is an adverb -> You did well on the test
