Some cities are expanding fast because China has opened its borders to foreign companies.

Examples: Shenzhen and Hong Kong

- 5th place in the top 10 metropolises

Shenzhen

- from fishing village to megacity

- special economic zone (SEZ) area where foreign companies can set up and do not have to pay much tax.

- a lot of labour-intensive production  multinationals

+ the ‘office’ of China many jobs in the 3rd sector world’s biggest port

Intensive

If products require a lot of skills, money, labour or machines we call them intensive.
