Tackling gap texts

A ‘gap text’ is a text in which some words or sentences have been left out. You have to fill in the missing words or sentences.

To tackle a gap text you …

– don’t read the possible answers yet

– read the text before and after the gap

– determine whether there is a connection between the text before and after the gap

– determine the function of the missing word or sentence

– think of a word or sentence that you believe is fitting and see whether it is one of the possible answers to fill the gap
