THE POSSESSIVE S

We use the possessive S after names of people and animals

even if they end in 's'

Alexis  =  Alexis's

Peter = Peter's

Single noun  (Enkelvoud)

Her dress is nice.
My sister's dress is nice.

Dus:    Enkelvouden =  's

Enkelvoud

His bike is new.
My brother's bike is new.

(1 brother / 1 bike)

Bezit van enkelvoudige zelfstandig naamwoorden

Plural nouns (meervouden)

Their dresses are nice.
My sisters' dresses are nice.

sisters = MV + eindigd op 's'

DUS: alleen '  (comma)

Bezit van meervoudige zelfstandig naamwoorden

Their bikes are new.
My brothers'  bikes are new.

(More than 1 brother + ends in 's' DUS: alleen ' (comma)

The possessive 'of'

We use OF to show possession for objects + geographical names
e.g. house, door, car  /  Capital OF London/Berlin etc

possessive 'of'

The house has a leaking roof.
The roof of the house leaks.

Our car is blue.
The colour of our car is blue
