Learning Objective
At the end of the lesson, you will be able to identify and explain the concepts of diffuse, indirect and direct light, penumbra, umbra, scattering and reflection.
Slide 2 - Diapositive
This slide sets the learning objective for the lesson. Make sure students understand what they will be able to do by the end of the lesson.
What do you already know about the different types of light and their effects on shadows?

What is Light?
Light is a form of energy that travels in straight lines and can be reflected, refracted, or absorbed.
Slide 4 - Diapositive
Introduce the concept of light and its basic properties to students.
Direct Light
Direct light comes from a single source and travels in a straight line. It creates sharp, well-defined shadows.
Slide 5 - Diapositive
Explain the concept of direct light, and show examples of direct light and the shadows it creates.
Indirect Light
Indirect light is light that has been reflected off another object before reaching the subject. It creates softer shadows.
Slide 6 - Diapositive
Explain the concept of indirect light, and show examples of indirect light and the shadows it creates.
Diffuse Light
Diffuse light comes from multiple sources, and is scattered in many directions. It creates soft, often indistinct shadows.
Slide 7 - Diapositive
Explain the concept of diffuse light, and show examples of diffuse light and the shadows it creates.
Umbra and Penumbra
The umbra is the darkest part of a shadow, where all light is blocked. The penumbra is the lighter part of a shadow, where some light is blocked.
Slide 8 - Diapositive
Introduce the concepts of umbra and penumbra, and show examples of shadows with both.
Scattering
Scattering is when light is redirected in many different directions as it passes through a medium, such as air or water.
Slide 9 - Diapositive
Explain the concept of scattering, and show examples of how it affects the appearance of objects and shadows.
Reflection
Reflection is when light bounces off an object and travels in a different direction. It can create multiple shadows or reflections.
Slide 10 - Diapositive
Explain the concept of reflection, and show examples of how it affects the appearance of objects and shadows.
Write down 3 things you learned in this lesson.
Slide 11 - Question ouverte
Have students enter three things they learned in this lesson. With this they can indicate their own learning efficiency of this lesson.
Write down 2 things you want to know more about.
Slide 12 - Question ouverte
Here, students enter two things they would like to know more about. This not only increases involvement, but also gives them more ownership.
Ask 1 question about something you haven't quite understood yet.
Slide 13 - Question ouverte
The students indicate here (in question form) with which part of the material they still have difficulty. For the teacher, this not only provides insight into the extent to which the students understand/master the material, but also a good starting point for the next lesson.
