What do you always have to do?
Only speak English!

Take notes!
  • Always take a notebook with you to class. 
  • Write down the grammar rules in your notebook.
  • Write other important stuff in your notebook.
No notebook (or an empty one) means that you've forgotten your work.

Vocabulary list
Create a vocabulary list at the end of your notebook. This broadens your vocabulary and helps you remember more. 
Always do your homework + don't forget to bring your homework, books, pen and notebook with you.

Phrasal verbs
Verb + preposition or adverbs
ex: sit down or look up

literal - stand up 
figurative - make up ---> learn  by heart

Put it down (pronoun between verb and preposition)
Put the book down or put down the book - are both possible (object can be at the end or in between the verb and preposition)

Some words can be used as either prepositions or adverbs. If the word has an object, it is acting as a preposition. If it has no object, it is acting as an adverb.
- Sit down (down is an adverb)
- Put it down (down is a preposition)

Exercise 1: Read Liam's narrative. What is it about? Choose the best summary.

Exercise 2: Read Liam's paragraph plan. Decide where the paragraph breaks should be in his narrative

Narrative time expressions (page 18)
- We often start a narrative with a non-specific time expression:
     - a few weeks ago, about a month or so ago, one day last summer, one Sunday last year
- To show how a situation changes with time, we use: 
     - at first...., (but) then......
- To talk about an unexpected event, we use: 
      - Suddenly, all of a sudden,
- We use these expressions to move the narrative forward in time:
     - later, a few minutes later, after a while, later on
- To bring the narrative to an end, we use: 
     - in the end.....
- Or emphasize that a lot of time has passed, we use:
    - finally, at last

Exercise 4 - vocabulary - Complete the phrasal verbs from Liam's narrative in exercise 1. Then choose the correct meaning for this context, a-e.

Example:
1 = get__________ 3rd sentence "got on a bus" (got - get) meaning = enter (a vehicle) = e.

Write a narrative about an accident you have had or seen. Include the information on page 18 wb. Remember to use paragraphs and narrative time expressions.
