Past simple

Actie uit het verleden en klaar, geen nadruk op iets wat voor een langere tijd is doorgegaan.

Past continuous

Actie uit het verleden en klaar, wel nadruk op iets wat voor een langere tijd is doorgegaan.

Past perfect

Gebruik je om aan te geven dat een actie is gebeurd voor een andere actie. 

Had + voltooid dw

Examples

I had eaten before she arrived. 

I hadn't eaten before she arrived. 

Had I eaten before she arrived?

Past perfect continuous

Gebruik je ook om aan te geven dat een actie is gebeurd voor een andere actie. 

maar er wordt nadruk gelegd op de duur van de actie
