• Today we are going to pay attention to a six word poem.

Six-word story (Poem)

Whether or not it actually happened, that Ernest Hemingway won $10 in a bar-bet that he could write a novel in six words and chose 'For Sale: Baby shoes. Never Worn", the exercise and creative genius inspiration IS real indeed.

For this lesson you will need a pen and some paper to write on.

Six Word Story

Al deze zinnen in het filmpje zijn een heel verhaal op zich, nu ga jij jouw verhaal schrijven. 

Maar hoe?

Create a "you" list. Write down 15 words about YOU.

This is my list:

Mother, teacher, woman, son, music, friends, festivals, reading, knowledge, food, travel, dogs, camping, summer, beach, skiing, dreams, books, blue, outdoors.

Choose your words

1. Now circle two or three words that stand out for you from your list by writing them down on a piece of paper.
2.  Choose words that you could say more about.

Free write

Pick one item and freewrite about it. That means you just start writing about that idea, object, role or event. The only rule is: DON'T STOP WRITING for at least two minutes. Whatever comes to mind is fine!

Because I choose to go camping, I can always take my dog with me. He makes me so happy. I don't think I would enjoy going on holidays without Mika. I wouldn't feel happy. He is literally my best friend, I wouldn't dream of going without him, We would both be miserable.

Now synthesize

Now that you have a sense of your topic, synthesize (voeg samen) it into a sentence that captures the essence of what your topic means to you. 

My topic is "My dog". 

My idea is I would rather stay at home then ever leave my dog behind.

Now start making sentences.

Try to make a sentence with six words or more than one sentence to help you get to the six word poem.

Write them down on your piece of paper.
