What's the present simple?

Present simple

You use it when: 

- something happens always, never or regularly 

Signaalwords: 

- usually, every day, sometimes, often, ...

Present simple

- simple:      'de simple form' 

- verb    or    verb + (e)s

- verb = de stam van het ww:    to walk    -->    walk

- the base form for -> I, you, we, you, they

- the base + (e)s -> he/she/it --> the shit rule!

to walk --> we walk                     to go --> they go

to write --> I write                        to do --> you do

He/she/it:         verb / stam + (e)s

to walk --> he walks                   to go --> she goes

to write --> she writes              to do --> he does

What's the present continuous?

Present continuous

You use it when: 

- someone is doing something is right now 

- something is happening right now 

- may continue into the future 

Signal words: 

- right now, currently,  ...

Present continuous

- continuous : on-going / happening now 

- verb    or    verb + ing 

am/is/are + verb + ing.

I am reading a book.

You are watching TV.

Present simple

I, you, we, you, they:       am/are+ verb+ ing

to walk --> we are walking                to go --> they are going

to write --> I am writing                      to do --> you are going

He/she/it:       is +   verb + ing

to walk --> he is walking                   to go --> she is going

to write --> she is writing              to do --> he is doing

What's the past simple?

Past Simple

You use it when: 

To tell you something happened yesterday, last week, last month, last year, five years ago.

 verb+ed = past simple.

Signal words: 

- time indications : yesterday, last year ect.,  ...

Past simple irregular verbs

Some verbs (werkwoorden) have their own form instead of -ed.

I think about you every day --> I thought about you every day.

I sing a song --> I sang a song

He runs very fast --> He ran very fast.

Past simple
