Wanneer gebruiken we deze 'if-zinnen'? 

- Wordt gebruikt als het mogelijk is dat iets gaat gebeuren OF voor dingen die over het algemeen waar zijn. 

(We noemen 'if-sentences' over mogelijke situaties ook wel de 'first conditional'). 

If I won a lot of money, I would buy a big house in the country.

If-sentences (first conditional)

Bestaan uit 2 delen:

- Bijzin met voorwaarde (begint met if)

- Hoofdzin met gevolg

Dus bijvoorbeeld:

Als we de bus missen, nemen we een taxi.

If we miss the bus, we will get a taxi.

Opbouw

Een 'first conditional' wordt altijd op dezelfde manier gebruikt:

If we miss the bus,                       we will get a taxi.

Present Simple               +               Will + hele ww.

Dus altijd:

If..... Present Simple               +               Will + hele ww

(kan natuurlijk ook andersom)

 Will + hele ww             +                  If..... Present Simple 

Bij I/he/she/it: Geen was, maar were

Voorbeelden

When, as soon as, unless, until, before SB. p. 164

Deze woorden worden ook gebruikt om de toekomst aan te duiden. Na deze woorden gebruiken we altijd een tegenwoordige tijd (present tense), geen toekomende tijd (future form).  Deze woorden worden vaak gebruikt in een zin met will. 

When, as soon as, unless, until, before SB. p. 164

Examples: 

When I finish my work, I'll get something to eat. 

As soon as we arrive, I'll give you a call. 

We gebruiken de komma op  dezelfde manier als bij de first conditional. De komma komt na het zinsdeel met de tijd.
