Reading strategies

- Previewing.

- Contextualizing.

- Summarizing.

- Skimming.

- Scanning.

Previewing

Looking for things that can tell you a bit more before reading the entire article.

Things like:

- Headlines and pictures

- Starting phrases of paragraphs

Jail job applicant not hired, arrested instead in theft case.

Read quickly.

What do you know now?

Contextualizing

Putting a text into context.

This makes it easier to make sense of new information.

You're looking for reference points. Is it a story about the entire world or just a certain place. Is it about history, current events or the future?
