One vs Ones

We use one or ones if we do not want to repeat the already mentioned noun (het al genoemde zelfstandig naamwoord). One(s) replaces  the noun. 

One -> refers to the SINGULAR noun (enkelvoud)

Ones -> refers to the PLURAL noun (meervoud)

I don't want the green apples. I want the red apples.

I don't want the green apples. I want the red ones.

In short

Je kunt een zelfstandig naamwoord vervangen door one wanneer je het herhaalt of wanneer je antwoord geeft op een vraag.

- Bij enkelvoud gebruik je one

E.g. Which bag are you going to buy? The white one.

- Bij meervroud gebruik je ones

E.g. I'm going to buy new trainers because my old ones have holes in them.

I asked for a glass, but they did not have one.

My car is the red one.

I like those shoes, but let's buy these ones.

Je gebruikt one en ones wanneer je een zelfstandig naamwoord verderop in een zin wilt herhalen.

Het is hierbij belangrijk dat het duidelijk is wat je er mee bedoelt. 

je gebruikt one  als het gaat om enkelvoud en ones zodra het gaat om meervoud.
