What do you usually "write" in English?

Writing skill

On your test you'll need to write a letter/email. 

How do you do this?

Beginning a letter (aanhef)

1. if you know who you are writing to, you can begin with "Dear ______," 

2. if you don't know who you are writing to, you use "Dear sir/madam,"

Always use a comma (,) after the salutation. For example:

Dear Jason, 

Ending a letter (aansluiting)

1. If you're writing a formal letter, you should end the letter with "Kind regards," 

2. If you're writing an informal letter (to a friend or family, for example) you can end it with "Love,"

You must always put your name under the closing. For example:

Kind regards,

On the test you'll be given a few points that you must include in your letter. Always follow the order of the points and make sure to include everything it asks you to. If you forget something, you'll lose points. 

You'd like to go to an event with your friend Jason. You send him a short email (60-80 words). 

Write about:

• what your plans are
  
• why you have chosen this event
  
• how much you'd like Jason to come
  
• what Jason can do to help organise the trip
  

Example letter

Dear Jason,

I’m planning to go to that outdoor concert next Saturday, and I thought it would be awesome if you could join me! The lineup looks amazing, and I think we’ll have a blast. It would mean a lot if you could come. Could you help me with booking the tickets and sorting out the transport? Let me know if you’re in!
