Reports are more often used for business, scientific and technical subjects, and in the workplace.

 

Whereas an essay presents arguments and reasoning, a report concentrates on facts.

Essentially, a report is a short, sharp, concise document which is written for a particular purpose and audience.

It generally sets outs and analyses a situation or problem, often making recommendations for future action. It is a factual paper, and needs to be clear and well-structured.

Structure

• Introduction 
• Main body: 3 paragraphs
• Conclusion 

So your total should be 5 paragraphs including the intro and conclusion. You need to write at least 325 words in total for this report. 

Introduction

• In which you explain what the problem/issue etc is that you are going to write about.
• Mention the name of the video and where it can be found, or when it was broadcast.
• You should also state that you will make recommendations. 
• But! Keep it short: all in all it should not be more than 5 sentences. Be consise and clear, your explanations are for the main body
  

Main body

Each of the  paragraphs is structured as follows:

• Subheading
• Thesis statement/topic sentence: this is 1 sentence in which you basically state what you are going to talk about in this paragraph.
• Evidence (facts!) from the video. Make sure everything you write is in keeping with what was said in the video.

So, if it needs to be for school, mention only what can we done there

Conclusion:

• Summarize the main points in other words
  
• The recommendations suggest how you think the situation could be improved /solved or whatever the assignment tells you to give a recommendation about.

Language

• Formal language.
• Impersonal language (avoid using I or we)  -> passive voice! This also means that you cannot use the words I or we in your report with the exception of the conclusion.
• No contractions (do not ipv don't)
• Numbers under 21 written in full
• Polite forms (would/could etc.)
• Show that you have a wide command of vocabulary and grammar
• use synonyms for  words that are frequently used in the report

The test itself

• Bring a fully charged laptop / i-pad to the test, and headphones.
• Become familiar with all functions of Word, such as the spellchecker and synonym options. The more you know, the easier writing becomes.
• Write/type a report of at least 325 words. You can only open Word and Magister Berichten.
• Arial 12, space 1.5 p
  
• Upload a WORD file to Magister Opdrachten. Other files are not accepted.
  
• You can use the spelling checker, grammar checker, list of synonyms and the editor in Word. Pupils who use an i-pad are allowed to use the free version of Grammarly as they do not have the editor in Word.  AI is, of course, not allowed and will be considered fraud.
• Do not forget to type name, class, and number of words.

Bekijk de video. 

Schrijf een report over de ongelijkheid in het Britse schoolsysteem dat veroorzaakt wordt door private scholen. Geef in de conclusie aan  waarom jij denkt dat het systeem van private scholen afgeschaft moet worden of niet, gebaseerd op wat je hebt gehoord in de video.

In het middendeel van je rapport schrijf je alinea's over;

1) Wat zijn private schools en hoe zijn ze ontstaan? ( kopje: the history of private schools)

2) Waarom worden ze gezien als elitair? ( kopje: the elitism of private schools)

3) Welke maatregelen om het onderwijs meer inclusief te maken worden in de video genoemd? ( kopje: measures to make private schools more inclusive)

Schrijf een report over het gebrek aan begraafplaatsen in London. Geef in de conclusie aan of jij denkt dat de oplossing die gekozen is de juiste is en waarom , gebaseerd op wat je hebt gehoord in de video.

In het middendeel van je report schrijf je alinea's over;

1)  dat het een probleem is dat zich al eerder heeft voorgedaan.

2) welke oplossing Londen bedacht heeft voor het probleem

3) waarom deze oplossing alleen werkbaar  is voor Londen

schrijf ten minste 350 woorden

Write a report on the video "The European Coaster Club" from the BBC

Schrijf een report over de European Coaster Club. Leg uit wat voor een club het is, geef voorbeelden van wat deze club doet en vertel wat leden zo leuk vinden aan lid zijn. In de conclusie geef je je mening over het 'nut' van de club (bereikt het zijn doel). Gebruik deze opbouw:

paragraaf 1: introductie 

paragraaf 2: gebruik als kopje The European Coaster Club Leg uit wat voor een club dit is

paragraaf 3: Examples of European Coaster Club activities Geef minimaal 2 specifieke voorbeelden van uitstapjes die de club heeft gemaakt (dus waarheen en waarom).
paragraaf 4: Being a member brings joy In het laatste deel van de video vertellen leden waarom lid zijn van hun club fijn is, leg dat uit in deze paragraaf. 

paragraaf 5: conclusie:

In je report leg je uit wat een brony is, wat de 'Seven Bronies' zijn en doen, en welke positieve kanten bronies zijn kan hebben volgens de bronies zelf. Sluit af met in je conclusie een mening te geven over het belang voor mensen als de bronies om hun ongebruikelijke passie open te delen. 

Gebruik de volgende opbouw:

paragraaf 1: Introductie

paragraaf 2: kopje: This is a Brony 

paragraaf 3: kopje: The Seven Bronies and what they do

paragraaf 4: kopje: The upsides of being a brony

paragraaf 5: conclusie

Schrijf een report over bovenstaande video die gaat over smart phones en social media en het effect op de mentale gezondheid van tieners. Experts zijn verdeeld over de effecten en oplossingen. Sluit je report af met aanbevelingen gebaseerd op de video om het negatieve effect van smart phones en social media op tieners te beperken.

Gebruik de volgende opbouw:

paragraaf 1: Introductie

paragraaf 2: kopje: Smart phones and social media are part of every teen's life 

paragraaf 3: These are negative aspects according to experts 

paragraaf 4: These are positive aspects according to experts
