• You use an adjective (bijvoeglijk naamwoord) to say something about a noun (zelfstandig naamwoord)

• Je gebruikt een bijwoord om iets te zeggen over een werkwoord (hoe iets gebeurt), een bijvoeglijk naamwoord of een ander bijwoord in de zin.

• LET OP:
  De spelling verandert wanneer het bijvoeglijk naamword eindigt op:
  
• -le. Dan verandert -le in -ly
• terrible - terribly                                                       unbearable - unbearibly
  
  

• medeklinker + y. Dan verandert -y in -ily. 
• angry - angrily                                                          merry - merrily

• -ic. Dan komt er -ally achter. 
• fantastic - fantastically                                       epic - epically

• LET OP:
• Na de werkwoorden to be, to seem, to feel, to look, to smell, to sound en to taste gebruik je een bijvoeglijk naamwoord in plaats van een bijwoord. 

• This game looks cool. 
• The bread tastes awful. 
• The band sounds amazing. 
• This gadget is great.

• Sommige bijwoorden hebben een onregelmatige vorm of hebben dezelfde vorm als het bijvoeglijk naamwoord. 

• He's a good artist. - He draws well. 
• She's a fast runner. - She runs fast. 
• It's a long road. - I took long to get there.
