• Past continuous: past situation was temporary or something was going on.

• Used to: for habits and situations in the past that no longer happen in the present.
  He used to go out every Friday night. I used to forget my keys all the time.
• Would: for habits (NOT situations) in the past. He would go out every Friday night.
