The High Middle Ages
After the year 1000, the European population grew fast. This brought about several major changes.
A great number of new cities and towns were founded, which led to the rise of a social class: the bourgeoisie.
New monarchs and states arose. (usually accompanied by war and violence)
Christianity remained the dominant religion, but a rival religion was stirring: Islam.
