REPORTED SPEECH

Reported speech is speech which tells you what someone said, but does not use the person's actual words: for example, 'They said you didn't like it', 'I asked her what her plans were', and ' Citizens complained about the smoke'.

WHICH ONE IS THE CORRECT REPORTED SPEECH?
MAN: "I work in a bank."
LADY: "That's nice! I'm a nurse."

1. He says that he works in a bank.
2. He said that he worked in a bank.

"We went out last night."

1. He said that they went out last night.
2. He said that they had gone out last night.

Wat gebeurt er dus met de tijd in de reported speech?

Answer

Die gaat een stapje terug, tegenwoordige tijd wordt verleden tijd, verleden tijd wordt voltooid verleden tijd. 

WHICH ONE IS THE CORRECT REPORTED SPEECH?
"I'm coming!"

1. She said that she was coming.
2. She said that she is coming

"I was waiting for the bus when he arrived."

1. She said that she had waited for the bus when he arrived.
2. She said that she had been waiting for the bus when he arrived.

"I'd never been there before."

1. She said that she had never been there before.
2. She said: I've never been there before.

Deze zin staat al in de past perfect (had + voltooid deelwoord. Je kunt dus niet verder terug in de tijd.

"I didn't go to the party."

1. She said that he hasn't gone to the party.
2. He said that she hadn't gone to the party.

"Lucy will come later."

1. Lucy said that she will come later.
2. Lucy said that she would come later.

"He hasn't eaten breakfast."

1. He said that he hasn't eaten breakfast.
2. He said that he hadn't eaten breakfast.

En nu een paar om zelf op te schrijven
