Present tenses 

Two tenses in the present (tegenwoordige tijd) 

- Present simple: facts and routines 

- Present continuous: actions happening at the moment of speaking 

How do we make the present continuous?

1. He,she,it : verb +s
2. am/is/are + verb + ing
3. have/has + past participle
4. verb + ed

What do we put behind the verb following he/she/it in the present simple?

Past tenses 

Two tenses in the past (verleden tijd) 

- Past simple: finished actions in the past 

- Past continuous: actions that were in progress at some time in the past, or when another action took place. 

Irregular verbs!! 

Type a full sentence, using the past simple.

Give the correct answer
I _______ (walk) when my sister called me.

Talking about the present and the past 

Sometimes, we want to talk about both the present and the past.

 

- Present perfect: talk about events in the past which effects are still visible in the present. 

have/has + past participle 

How do we make the past participle?

1. verb + ING or irregular verb
2. verb + ed or irregular verb
3. verb + s or irregular verb
4. irregular verb

Future tenses 

There are a few ways to talk about the future in English. 

- Will: talk about predictions and decisions taken at the moment of speaking.

- Be going to: general plans and predictions based on evidence 

- Present simple: timetables and schedules
