How did the Egyptians handle this? 
  • Close watch on the river

  • Water supplies needed to be arranged: wells (put) and canals (irrigation-system) 

  • Every year grain needed to be stocked. So there was enough food. Taxes were paid, so writers needed to record this: writing system developed.
