You should be able to decide for yourself how to organize your life. 

According to humanists, our legislation should give people as much room as possible to make their own choices. 

Homework: Read page 15-16 and do question 1-3

Euthanasia 

Euthanasia means 'a good death'

Assignment: Search what the Dutch law says about Euthanasia.

Self determination

1. Euthanasia is a humane way of dying, with little suffering for the person dying and the surrounding family. It is done with the help of a doctor who, with the support of 3 other doctors, has checked the mental state of the doctor. 

Suicide can be done out of despair and can be a horrible death. It also potentially affects random bystanders that witness the attempt. 

2. Personal answer

Final Assignment

In groups of maximum 3 you will write a report about a documentary. You watch the documentary and answer the questions below. 

 

1. What is the documentary about? What do you think the makers want to show / make clear? What questions (minimum 3) did the documentary raise for you? 

 2. Discuss a short fragment (3 to max. 5 min.) that you think best summarises the core of the documentary

 3. What humanistic themes are reflected in this documentary? Be complete and elaborate on all themes and how they are reflected. What would a humanist think about the content of this documentary? Indicate clearly what the humanistic view of humans entails. 

 4. What is your view on the subject? Has it changed your own view of the subject? 

 5. Answer any question you have about the documentary. So come up with an interesting humanistic question yourself, which you then answer! 

Criteria: minimum 2 A4, correct English, written in your own words, showing comprehension of the theory of Humanism
