What are verb Tenses?
Verb tenses zijn werkwoord tijden zoals:
  • Tegenwoordige tijd
  • Verleden tijd 
  • Zeggen wat nu gebeurd

Vandaag kijken we naar de present simple, past simple, present continuous en past continuous.

Present simple
We use the present simple when we talk about:

  • Habits /gewoontes: You can recognize a habit when a signalword like "always, never, sometimes, often etc." is used. Je herkent een gewoonte aan een signaalwoord dat een bepaalde regelmaat uitdrukt zoals älways, never......
      I always walk to school. I never drink coffee.
  • General speaking/algemene zin: no time indication. Geen tijdsaanduiding
       Emma cooks dinner.  Peter likes  to ski in Austria.
  • Facts/feiten: Things that are always true. Dingen die altijd waar zijn
       Snow is cold.  You have two hands.

What is the SHIT rule?

He/She/it get -S behind the verb
He plays football, She kisses him, It tries to escape.

Rest of the personal pronouns get infinitive/ rest van de persoonlijke voornaamwoorden krijgen hele werkwoord/stam:

The -ING form
We use the -ING form when we want to say what is happening right now or real soon. We gebruiken de -ING vorm als we zeggen wat nu gebeurd of binnekort.

Past Continuous
We use the past continuous when someone was in the middle of an action at a certain moment in the past. We gebruiken de past continuous als iemand bezig was met een bepaalde actie op een bepaald moment in het verleden.

Sue was swimming this morning.
They were swimming this morning.
