Present Simple and Present Continuous

In de tegenwoordige tijd maken we een onderscheid tussen de present simple (SHIT-regel) en de present continous (-ing).

Er zit verschil in wanneer je welke moet gebruiken.

Present Simple

Wanneer gebruik je de present simple?

Present Simple

De present simple is beter bekend als de SHIT-regel.

Je gebruikt de present simple bij feiten, gewoontes en dingen die regelmatig voorkomen.

SHIT-regel

SHE, HE en IT krijgen een -s na het hele werkwoord.

I work in the garden every Saturday.	We run faster.
He work s in the garden every Saturday.	She run s faster.

Present Simple

De SHIT-regel geldt niet alleen bij SHE, HE en IT.

De regel geldt ook als het gaat over:

• 1 persoon (Bob, Jane, my father, etc.)
• 1 dier (dog, cat, fish, cow, etc.)
• 1 ding (chair, table, computer, book, etc.)

Bijvoorbeeld:

My father works at a construction company.

The dog sleeps a lot.

The computer works fine.

Wanneer gebruik je de present continuous?

Present Continuous

De present continuous gebruik je voor dingen die NU bezig zijn.

Tip: in het Nederlands gebruik je vaak "aan het..."

Je maakt de present continuous met:

am, is, are + hele werkwoord + ing

Bijvoorbeeld: She is working in the garden right now.

Present Continuous

Hoe weet je wanneer je de present continuous moet gebruiken?

Let op signaalwoorden in de zin:

• (right) now
• at the moment
• currently

Present Continuous

LET OP 1:

Soms verandert de spelling van een woord.

Als een woord eindigt op één -e, dan gaat de -e eraf.

love -> loving, use -> using, have -> having

MAAR: 

see -> seeing

be -> being

Present Continuous

LET OP 2:

Bij werkwoorden van één lettergreep met een korte klinker (a,e,o,u,i) verdubbelt de laatste medeklinker.

chat -> chatting, put -> putting
