Skimming

When you skim a text, you quickly let your eyes go over it to get a general idea of what the text is about. You can use titles, headings and pictures to find out what the message of a text is. Looking for things that stand out, such as words in bold or in a special colour, also helps.

Scanning

When you are looking for specific information, you don't have to read the whole text. You can scan the text. This means you look at titles, headings and pictures first. Also look for things that are striking, such as words in bold, or in a special colour. This will help you find the information quickly.

The Time

am / pm

Gaat het om een tijdstip vóór twaalf uur 's middags, dan zet je er am achter > 7 am = zeven uur 's ochtends.

Gaat het om een tijdstip vanaf twaalf uur 's middags, dan zet je er pm achter. > 5.15 pm = kwart over vijf 's middags.

Je gebruikt am en pm vooral als je schrijft.
