You use like  -> comparising people, animals and things

 You often use like after the verbs to look, to sound, to taste, to smell and to feel.

That cake tastes like marshmallows.

He looks like Sheldon.

As

You use as -> talk about someone's role or job

 If you use like-> the meaning changes to ‘in the same way’.

As your best friend, I’ll always tell you the truth.

I work as a programmer.

I work like a programmer.

as ....... as

You use as twice if you want to compare two things: as … as. 

You can also use not as … as.

Often paired with an adjective (tall/good)

She is as tall as her mom.

He is not as good at maths as I am.

As in dependent clause

You use as in a dependent clause to say that you do something in a similar way.

 

She often practises drawing at home, as we do in art class.
