Slide 1 - Diapositive

Which sounds are produced in these pictures?

Slide 2 - Diapositive

Picture 1. F/v   2. Th    3. d/ t / s / z/ l / n
It's important to practice the tongue placement for these sounds to ensure the f/ v/ th/ d sounds are pronounced clearly and don't get mixed up.

For s / z /d / t/ l / n: place the tongue behind the teeth against the alveolar ridge.
For f/v: place the upper teeth on top of the bottom lip and blow out.
For th: place the tongue slightly between the teeth (or slightly behind the teeth) and blow out

Slide 3 - Diapositive

The alveolar huh????
The alveolar ridge is slightly behind
the teeth.

You place your tongue against it for the
following sounds: t/ d / s / z/ l / n
Your tongue should not touch the
teeth, nor should it be in the high
hollow at the top of your mouth.

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Practise saying f-v-f-v-f-v-f-v
(The sound you hear at the start of the words fish and veal)

Practise saying t-d-t-d-t-d-t-d
(The sound you hear at the end of bet and bed)

The mouth movement is the same for f +v / t+d.  But they should not sound the same! What is the difference and how do you achieve it?

Slide 5 - Diapositive

The next 2 slides will show sets of words using th / s / f / v...
Practise pronouncing these words and concentrate on using the correct part of the mouth (alveolar ridge, teeth, lips) to produce these sounds.

Irregular verbs
The spinner on this slide has different irregular verbs.

After spinning the spinner, first name all 3 rows
(eg to hide - hid - hidden). Then use the 2nd or 3rd row
correctly in a sentence.
(Bonus question: Can you explain when you use the 2nd and 3rd row?)

Slide 9 - Diapositive

Word order
The spinner has different words / assignments. Try to use these in a sentence.

Slide 10 - Diapositive

Today you learned:
How to tell someone you are thinking, and not sinking ;-)

How to make sure you buy a fan                           and not a van ;-)

You practised using the irregular verbs correctly

Word order you practised
(What is wrong with this sentence?!)
