The rebirth 

of antiquity

• Renaissance= rebirth of of knowledge and art from antiquity (Roman and Greek culture). 
• From the 14th to the 17th centuries.

Powerful Italian

• Due to trade North Italian cities such as Venice, Florence & Genoa became very rich and powerful. 
• They lived among ruins from the Roman period and wanted to know more about them. 

When did the Roman Empire fall?

Knowlegde of the east

• After the fall of Constantinople (1453) many scholars, architects, poets, astronomers, scientists and artist fled to Italy and caused the Renaissance.

Changing worldview

• In the Middle Ages people saw life as a test. Their motto was: Memento Mori (=remember you will die).
• During the Renaissance that changed.

Carpe Diem

• =Seize the day/ enjoy life and think for yourself.
• Humans became the centre of attention.
• People started having more parties, buying art and having fancy clothing.
