WORD ORDER IN ENGLISH

There is a set word order in English and it is different than in Dutch:

  who (person) / does what (verb) / what / where / when.

 He - watched - a film - on television - last weekend.

You can add an adjective (bijvoeglijk naamwoord) to a sentence. An adjective gives more information about the noun (zelfstandig naamwoord). You out the adjective BEFORE the noun.

He watched a funny film.

They bought a lovely dress.

We had a good time.

Sometimes an adjective is AFTER a verb (werkwoord). In that situation, the adjective gives more information about the subject (het onderwerp). 

This happens with the verbs:   to be, look, appear en seem.  

She looks amazing in my new dress.

I am curious to see that new film.

They seem focussed on their singing careers.

My friends have a ... hide-out place.

This ... comedy in set in Los Angeles in 1990.

She is ...! She makes so many jokes.

The ... Harry Potter movies was the best.
