signaalwoorden: when, before, after, as soon as

Wanneer: wanneer er iets anders in het verleden daarna nog is gebeurd. (na dat we hadden geschaatst gingen we warme chocomel drinken = After we had iceskated we drank some hot chocolate)

Ontkenningen: onderwerp + had + not + past participle.

When he arrived to the train station the train had left.

I had lost my bike key so I decided to walk home.


The Past Perfect shows what happened first in a sequence of past events.
