What is a team?

A collection of people with a shared purpose and a commitment to working together. Teams are powerful because they have the same purpose and are committed to achieving this purpose.

Formal teams
- Set up by the organisation itself with the purpose of achieving specific objectives.
- Rules and guidlines about how and when a team should meet, and some form of leadership structure.

Informal teams
- A group of individuals, not officially set up by an organisation, that sees the benefit of working together to achive given purpose.
- Usually less highly structured and rule-bound than formal teams.

Size of a team
Optimum teamsize is 5 people, why?

Odd number will prevent a deadlock in decision making
the group is small enough to to involve everyone.
Sufficiently large to avoid the mistakes that result from insufficient information, or the power of fixed view of one individual
