Direct vs indirect speech
Hoe maak ik de indirecte rede? 

Je kijkt steeds naar de werkwoorden in de zin van de directe rede. Deze zet je vervolgens allemaal steeds één stapje terug in de tijd. 

Je kijkt naar persoonlijke voornaamwoorden. In de indirecte rede verandert 'I' vaak naar 'he/she/it'.

Hoe verander je de werkwoorden?

present simple --> past simple (bijv. work --> worked, do --> did) 
present continuous --> past continuous (bijv. is listening --> was listening)
present perfect --> past perfect (bijv. have seen --> had seen)
! past simple --> past perfect (bijv. worked --> had worked)

They said: 'We don't agree.'   --> They said they didn't agree. 

She said: 'I was in New York last year.' --> She said she had been in New York last year. 

He says: 'I have been fired.' --> He said he had been fired.

Use: to emphasize what has happened, instead of who carried out the acction.
