Conditionals (if- clause statement)
zero conditional
Used for stating facts and things that are generally true.
If you
commit
a crime, you go to jail. The streets
get
wet if it
rains
.
first conditional
Used for situations in the (near) future that are real or possible.
If you
don't feed
my cat, it
won't be
happy. Your room
will look
nicer if you
clean
it.
second conditional
Used for situations that are unlikely or unreal.
If she
owned
a dog, she
would go
outside more often.
I
wouldn't leave
without an umbrella, if I
were
you.
third conditional
Used to describe a fictional situation in the past that would have led to a different outcome.
If I
had read
the manual, I
would have known
what to do.
We
could have been
on time, if we
had left
earlier.
