Modals
Verbs (walk, eat) can change depending on the tense (walked, ate), but auxillary verbs indicate whether you can, may, want, etc. do something. 
- Can you walk to school?                    - I might come to your party.
- You shouldn't walk to school.          - I must clean this up.
- I will walk to school.                             - You have to be on time.

Can 
Could (polite questions)
"I can't come to your party" & "Could you help me out?"

May = strong certainty
Might =  =lesser degree of certainty(polite questions)
"You may come to my party." & "I might be able to come."
