Modals

Verbs (walk, eat) can change depending on the tense (walked, ate), but auxillary verbs indicate whether you can, may, want, etc. do something. 
- Can you walk to school?                    - I might come to your party.
- You shouldn't walk to school.          - I must clean this up.
- I will walk to school.                             - You have to be on time.

Types of Modals: 1

Can 
Could (polite questions)
"I can't come to your party" & "Could you help me out?"
British Council 
May = strong certainty
Might =  =lesser degree of certainty(polite questions)
"You may come to my party." & "I might be able to come."

Types of Modals: 2

Will = future - real possibilities 
Shall = offering help
Would = future - imagined situations (polite questions)

"I will come to your party"  & "Shall I help you out?"
& "I would like to help."

Types of Modals: 3

Should = by advice
Must = if you something shold happen
Have to = if somebody else thinks something must happen

"I must finish this book this afternoon."
"You have to be on time tomorrow." 
"You should really pay more attention in class."
