Let's start.
Open your workbook on page 5 and look at the Orientation assignment.
Why is it always good to do an orientation assignment?
Slide 4 - Diapositive
orientation
orientation is important because it helps you activate prior knowledge, connecting what you already know with the new information. This allows you to understand the text better, making it easier to understand.

D Scanning for information
What is scanning?
Scanning is reading a text quickly in order to find specific information, e.g. figures or names. It can be contrasted with skimming, which is reading quickly to get a general idea of meaning.
Slide 7 - Diapositive
D how do you scan?
Know what you're looking for. Decide on a few key words or phrases–search terms, if you will.
Look for only one keyword at a time. If you use multiple keywords, do multiple scans.
Let your eyes float rapidly down the page until you find the word or phrase you want.
When your eye catches one of your keywords, read the surrounding material carefully.
EG. question one. What kind of keywords can you think of that could help you?
