There are lost of different forms of poetry

  • Today we are going to pay atention to a six word poem.

  • At the end of the lesson you will have made your own six word poem.

Whether or not it actually happened, that Ernest Hemingway won $10 in a bar-bet that he could write a novel in six words and chose 'For Sale: Baby shoes. Never Worn", the exercise and creative genius inspiration IS real indeed.

For this lesson you will need a pen and some paper to write on.

Create a "you" list. 
This is my list:
Mother, teacher, woman, nature, knitting, sewing, study English, books, fashion, care, sea, ocean, pink, daughter, family, dreams, outdoors, green, ice skating, winter, swimming, shoes.

Choose your words
  1. Now circle two or three words that stand out for you from your list by writing them down on a piece of paper.
  2.  Choose words that you could say more about.

Free write
Pick one item and freewrite about it. That means you just start writing about that idea, object, role or event. The only rule is: DON'T STOP WRITING for at least two minutes. Whatever comes to mind is fine!

This is my freewrite:
I have been a single parent for 12 years and have a daughter. I enjoy spending time with my daughter but sometimes it is hard that we are always together. I like helping my daughter but as she is growing up. She doesn't always want my help as much as she did. Eventualy everything is about family life and the love I have for my child.

Synthesize
Now that you have a sense of your topic, synthesize it into a phrase that captures the essence of waht your topic means to you. 
My topic is "mother". 
My idea is the lenghts you go through for your child and  unconditional love you have for them.

Now start making sentences.
Try to make a sentence with six words or more than one sentence to help you get to the six word poem.
Write them down on your piece of paper.
