Part 3: Word formation 

What is it?
A text containing eight gaps. Each gap represents a word. At the end of the line is a ‘prompt’ word which the student has to change in some way to make the correct missing word and complete the sentence correctly.

What do you have to practise?

• 1 mark for each correct answer

How to prepare? 

The best practice is to read in English as much as possible. Books, articles, websites, magazines, etc.

You can also practise common words, phrasal verbs, collocations, etc. 

Focus especially on word formation.

- Read the text 'Exam stress for teenagers'  quickly to see what it is about

- Read before and after the gap to decide: 

* what meaning the word has

* what type of word you need (noun, verb, adjective or adverb)

- Think about how you need to change the word in capitals to form the word you need. Does it need to be negative?

- When you have finished, read the completed text to check that it makes sense
