Week 39 - Reading and watching

Slide 1 - Diapositive

Lesson goals
  • Students will practice skimming and scanning texts for specific information by quickly identifying key details in the text
  • Students will develop teamwork skills by collaborating in small groups, sharing information, and completing the tasks together.
  • Students will strengthen their understanding of the reading by watching a video about the immune system. This combines reading with both listening and watching to help them learn better.

Slide 2 - Diapositive

Activity one
Today, we are going to practice our reading comprehension by quickly finding specific answers in the text Not many faults in this star page 34. This is a timed activity where you will compete in teams to find answers as fast as possible.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

The activity
Make small teams of 3-4 students.
You will have 10 minutes to read through the text and highlight any important information. Make sure you work together as a team to mark any key details.
After 10 minutes, I will start asking questions, one by one.
Each question will refer to a specific detail in the text. Your task is to quickly find the answer in the text and write it down on your whiteboard.
When you have the answer, one member of your team will raise the board.

Activity two
We are going to watch a video which talks about how the immune system helps to find and kill cells that could become cancer. It explains how certain genes and Natural Killer Cells play important roles in this process. Even though the immune system works hard, some cancer cells can still escape detection, making it a tough battle against cancer.

Slide 15 - Diapositive

Make sure you write down important info and details in order to answer the upcoming questions!
