  • Bij korte bnw (een lettergreep) krijgen -er of -est
smart          smarter (than)       the smartest
* Bij bnw die bestaan uit één lettergreep en eindigen op klinker-medeklinker, wordt de laatste medeklinker verdubbeld:
big – bigger- the biggest      hot – hotter  than - the hottest
* Eindig op medeklinker+y, verandert de -y in -ier of -iest:
happy – happier – the happiest         noisy – noisier – the noisiest
