Speaking strategies (CB p189-interview):

• speak clearly
• sound interesting (avoid monotone)
• use synonyms, descriptions, antonyms etc
• listen carefully
  
• ask for repetition
• give relevant and personal answers (avoid one-word answers and very long answers)
