What comes to mind when you think of the word 'literature'?

So, what is literature?

Definition Literature OAE:

"pieces of writing that are valued as works of art, especially novels, plays and poems (in contrast to technical books and newspapers, magazines, etc."

 Why do we read novels? Why do all your language teachers want you to read and learn about literature?

I see no changes, all I see is racist faces

Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races

We under, I wonder what it takes to make this

One better place, let's erase the wasted

Take the evil out the people, they'll be acting right

It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other

            Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;

Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;

      And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,

            In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
