Past Simple <> Present Perfect
I lived / have lived here since I was a child.

I didn't eat / haven't eaten yet, so I am hungry.
Did you ever visit / Have you ever visited Paris?
I left / have left after finishing my homework.

What are the differences?
  • Water boils at 100 degrees. 
    The water is boiling now, so you can add the pasta. 
  • I drink coffee every morning. 
    I am drinking too much coffee these days. 
  • My flatmate always leaves for work at 8 am. 
    My flatmate is always leaving the kitchen in a mess!
