Below you can see rows of words. In which row do all the terms or phrases belong together?
A
fossil water - renewable water - aquifer
B
infiltration - evaporation - useful precipitation
C
renewable water - sustainable water management - water supply remains at the same level
D

Slide 5 - Quiz

The process of cloud formation.

Slide 6 - Question ouverte

Sustainable water management
Renewable water sources:
- Sources which do not run out of water (rivers).
Non-renewable water sources:
- Sources which will run out of water in the future (aquifers).

If you use only renewable water sources, you are working on a sustainable watermanagement.

Water in balance
Water can come in into a country through:
  1. Precipitation
  2. Rivers and from other areas
  3. From fossil water

Water is coming into the Netherlands through the first 2 ways. We do not have any fossil water.

Slide 12 - Diapositive

Through precipitation
  • Water falls from the sky onto our piece of planet. This is a way how we get water.
  • A lot of that precipitation also evaporates.
  • When you calculate how much water fell minus the evaporation, you get the useful precipitation.
  • Parts of this useful precipitation will sink into the ground through infiltration.

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Water from other areas
We get water from our rivers.

We also get water from the ground.

Slide 14 - Diapositive

Fossil water
  • Fossil water can also be used as a source of water.
  • We do not have fossil water in the Netherlands.
  • A reserve of fossil water is called: an aquifer.
