4.5 Graphs and tables

Slide 1 - Diapositive

This lesson
  • Completing paragraph 4.4
  • Graphs and tables
  • Project speed

Slide 2 - Diapositive

Learning goals
  • Be able to read speed-time graphs.

  • Calculate distance traveled using a speed-time graph.

  •  Explain terminal velocity in your own words.

  • Explain what is meant by a continuous variable and a discrete variable.

  •  know when to use a pie chart, bar chart or graph.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Slide 4 - Diapositive

What does the area under a graph tell you?
  • Area = length x width

  • Area under speed time graph =  speed x time

  •  speed x time = distance traveled

tables and graphs – Exercise
1. Read 4.5
2. Give a definition in your own words for the following concepts:

  • Discrete variable – give an example.
  • Continuous variable – give an example.
  •  Categoric variable – give an example

  •  Bar chart – draw an example of a bar chart.
  • Pie Chart – draw an example of a pie chart.
  • Line graph — draw an example of a line graph.

Slide 11 - Diapositive

Discrete variable
  • A variable which you can only express in whole numbers.
  • Example: The number of goals in a soccer match.

Continuos variable
  • A variable that can take any number.
  • Example: the temperature in a room.

Categoric variable.
  • A variable that is not expressed in numbers
  • Example: the names of players in a sports match.

    Slide 21 - Diapositive

    project speed
    • You wil do your own investigation into speed, In groups of four.

    • You will have to formulate your own research question.

    •  For the a final product you will have to create an A3 poster outlining your research
