- I can understand the main idea in simple texts in a magazine, newspaper or

website by scanning a text.
 

-  I can use different sentences and combine them using: and, but or so.

Scanning a text (zoekend lezen)

Zoeken naar specifieke informatie voor een opdracht:

– de titels en tussenkopjes

– belangrijke woorden

– anders gedrukte woorden (bijvoorbeeld vet, cursief, onderstreept, GROOT of gekleurd)

– tabellen en grafieken

– opvallende tekens, zoals valutasymbolen (€ , £, $), bolletjes, sterretjes.

Reading - Turning dreams into reality 

 - Make Exercises 17 & 18 on page 86

& Read the text on page 87

- Make exercises 19, 20 and 21 after reading the text.

Grammar - Conjunctions

• I love both Laura and my pony.
•  I’m hungry but I don’t have any food.
• He came to work, although he felt sick.
• Call me after you arrive at the station.

Waarom gebruik je voegwoorden?

• om twee dingen aan elkaar te plakken
• kunnen woorden, zinsdelen of zinnen zijn
• je geeft aan wat de relatie is tussen beide delen (opsomming, reden, tegenstelling,.....) 

Opsomming

• and (en) - He likes playing football and tennis. 

• both... and (zowel....als) - He likes playing both football and tennis.

reden

• because (omdat) - I like to eat chocolate because it tastes good. 

gevolg

• so (dus) - He kissed another girl so I broke up with him. 

Tegenstelling

• but (maar) - I don't give money to people but I will for you. 

• although (alhoewel) - he still failed although he studied really hard.

keuze

• or (of) - Do you want peanut butter or jelly on your sandwich?

• either ... or (of...of) - Would you either like the peanut butter or the jelly? 

tijd

• as soon as (zodra) - I'm eating that cake as soon as they're out the door.

• until (tot, todat) - you are grounded until you start behaving!

• when (wanneer) -  She was serious when she asked him to marry her.

Voorwaarde

• if (als) - I will call my mum if I need help with anything.

• unless (tenzij) - Sheryl will go out unless her mum stops her.
