• Activate prior knowledge about the 19th century.

• Enable students to identify and understand the Victorian era's characteristics and its influence on the setting and themes of 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles

Activity: To connect contemporary issues with the struggles Tess faces in Tess of the d'Urbervilles 

Four rounds

1. Explore the internet highlighting contemporary issues
2. Brainstorm connections between these issues and the struggles faced by Tess in the novel 
3. Share insights 
4. Pick one of the topics discuss and write an essay
