Modals: Deduction and Probability
Modals
of probability, also called modals of deduction and speculation, are used when we want to
make a guess about something
.
Different modals of probability can be used depending on how sure we are about a present situation.
The most commonly used modals of probability are:
may, might, will, must, can't.

When to use what
We use:
may/might
: when we think something is possible.
must/can't
: when we are sure about something, and we have evidence to base this view on.
will/won't
: when we feel certain about something.
