Why WW1:

It was a conflict which has been very important for the UK.

WW 1 aka The Great War

It was called the Great War because it showed the enormous scale of the conflict. It was a war that had never been seen before. It was one of the deadliest conflicts of the time: may soldiers lost their lives over very little gain.

The impact of the Great War

Everybody thought to be "at home before Christmas" at the start of the war. There were feelings of nationalism, pride, romantic patriotism at the beginning of the war. 

However, that changed during the four years of life in the trenches.

“War was romantic. War was colorful flags, spiked helmets and flashing sabers. War was an adventure. Those called to arms would be heroes, defending their homelands and way of life.”​
