A simile is a descriptive phrase that people use to compare one thing with another. Using the word as or like.

Slept like a baby.
As strong as an ox.
As busy as a bee.

Glittering white, the blanket of snow covered everything in sight.

Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia is a word that imitates the sound of the object or action it refers to. When you pronounce the word, it will mimic the sound of what it is describing.

Animal sounds - woof woof
Relating to water - splish, splash, drip
Relating to collisions - bang, smash, thud

Alliteration is when the beginning sound of words are repeated in close succession. For example: 

Peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
