Radical change started with the invention of the steam engine (1712).

How did it work?

Problem: Not enough space.
Solution: Build a factory to house the 
                    machines.

Problem: Machines are expensive.
Solution: Let entrepreneurs invest in 
                    these machines.
An entrepreneur is a person who starts their own business 👩‍💼👨‍💼.

Life in an industrial city
Industrialisation caused urbanisation 🏭 and factory jobs. 
                     Effect:
Workers lived in overcrowded 🏚️, dirty conditions with no clean water... 🚱
Urbanisation means more and more people move from the countryside 🏞️ to the city 🏙️ to live and work.

Cities grow bigger 🏗️, with more houses, roads, and buildings.

Dirty conditions lead to deadly diseases ☠️ like Cholera and Typhus 🦠.

💰 Wages were very low, so whole families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 had to work. 
Children missed school and did dangerous jobs 🧹⛏️ under machines or in chimneys. 🏭
